The story of Ayyub in the Qur’an

The call in suffering

Ayyub called his Lord: harm has touched me, and You are the Most Merciful of the merciful; and: Satan has afflicted me with hardship and pain. He did not complain; he only prayed.

Qur’an references 21:83 38:41

All the ayaat (2)

21:83 Al-Anbiya Key ayah

وَأَيُّوبَ إِذْ نَادَىٰ رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنِّى مَسَّنِىَ ٱلضُّرُّ وَأَنتَ أَرْحَمُ ٱلرَّٰحِمِينَ

And (remember) Job, when He cried to his Lord, "Truly distress has seized me, but Thou art the Most Merciful of those that are merciful

اور ایوب (کو یاد کرو) جب انہوں نے اپنے رب کو پکارا کہ مجھے تکلیف پہنچی ہے، اور تو سب رحم کرنے والوں سے بڑھ کر رحم کرنے والا ہے۔

38:41 Sad

وَٱذْكُرْ عَبْدَنَآ أَيُّوبَ إِذْ نَادَىٰ رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنِّى مَسَّنِىَ ٱلشَّيْطَٰنُ بِنُصْبٍ وَعَذَابٍ

Commemorate Our Servant Job. Behold he cried to his Lord: "The Evil One has afflicted me with distress and suffering

اور ہمارے بندے ایوب کو یاد کیجیے جب اس نے اپنے رب کو پکارا کہ شیطان نے مجھے تکلیف اور عذاب میں ڈال رکھا ہے۔

Healing, and his family restored

He was told: strike with your foot; here is cool water to wash and drink. His harm was removed and his family restored with as many again. He was allowed to fulfil his oath with a bunch of grass. Allah said: We found him patient; an excellent servant.

21:84 Al-Anbiya

فَٱسْتَجَبْنَا لَهُۥ فَكَشَفْنَا مَا بِهِۦ مِن ضُرٍّ وَءَاتَيْنَٰهُ أَهْلَهُۥ وَمِثْلَهُم مَّعَهُمْ رَحْمَةً مِّنْ عِندِنَا وَذِكْرَىٰ لِلْعَٰبِدِينَ

So We listened to him: We removed the distress that was on him, and We restored his people to him, and doubled their number,- as a Grace from Ourselves, and a thing for commemoration, for all who serve Us

تو ہم نے اس کی دعا قبول کی اور اس کی تکلیف دور کر دی، اور اسے اس کے گھر والے دیے اور ان کے ساتھ اتنے ہی اور، اپنی طرف سے رحمت کے طور پر اور عبادت کرنے والوں کے لیے نصیحت کے طور پر۔

38:42 Sad

ٱرْكُضْ بِرِجْلِكَ هَٰذَا مُغْتَسَلٌۢ بَارِدٌ وَشَرَابٌ

(The command was given:) "Strike with thy foot: here is (water) wherein to wash, cool and refreshing, and (water) to drink

(حکم ہوا:) اپنا پاؤں مارو، یہ نہانے کا ٹھنڈا پانی ہے اور پینے کا۔

38:43 Sad

وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُۥٓ أَهْلَهُۥ وَمِثْلَهُم مَّعَهُمْ رَحْمَةً مِّنَّا وَذِكْرَىٰ لِأُو۟لِى ٱلْأَلْبَٰبِ

And We gave him (back) his people, and doubled their number,- as a Grace from Ourselves, and a thing for commemoration, for all who have Understanding

اور ہم نے اسے (ایوب کو) اس کے گھر والے دیے، اور ان کے ساتھ اتنے ہی اور، اپنی طرف سے رحمت کے طور پر اور عقل والوں کے لیے نصیحت کے طور پر۔

38:44 Sad Key ayah

وَخُذْ بِيَدِكَ ضِغْثًا فَٱضْرِب بِّهِۦ وَلَا تَحْنَثْ إِنَّا وَجَدْنَٰهُ صَابِرًا نِّعْمَ ٱلْعَبْدُ إِنَّهُۥٓ أَوَّابٌ

And take in thy hand a little grass, and strike therewith: and break not (thy oath)." Truly We found him full of patience and constancy. How excellent in Our service! ever did he turn (to Us)

اور (حکم ہوا:) اپنے ہاتھ میں تنکوں کا ایک مٹھا لو اور اس سے مارو اور قسم نہ توڑو۔ بے شک ہم نے اسے صابر پایا، کیا خوب بندہ تھا، بے شک وہ بہت رجوع کرنے والا تھا۔
